Our Students
Who We ServeAt SRA we work with a select group of youth - those who have overcome tremendous odds. Despite poverty, homelessness, abandonment and abuse, they excelled in school, demonstrating their desire for a better life for themselves and their families.
Nearly 100% of our students are the first in their families to attend college; 75% live below the poverty line; 72% are from foster care or are living without a parent; 40% are or have been homeless; 35% have been abandoned; 25% are raising siblings; and 20% have physical or learning disabilities.
Some of our students speak English as a second language and serve as the family interpreter. We select an even ratio of girls and boys representing the rich diversity of the Bay Area.
