GRADWALK GOES THE DISTANCE AND MORE
The First Annual 5K Gradwalk was a blast and more successful than anyone expected. 125 people pre-registered to walk, but many more actually joined in. There were some power walkers for sure, but for most, it was a chance to get to know each other in a fun atmosphere.
Then the party started. A tasty barbeque... a little music.. lots of spirited students on summer break, even a little dancing here and there. The charming Kevin Wilson showed off the Berkeley shuffle – did you know every school had it’s own dance?
Barb Hendricks and the advisors honored the 44 rising students who just graduated High School, and the 15 who just finished college!
Grad walk brought in more money than expected: $39,408!!!
Joseph Wilson won first place for individuals, Robert Finkle won second and Cameron Kauffman came in third. Team Kossi led by the fearless Lisa Kossiver won in the team category.
Thanks go to Wells Fargo – the title sponsor. Three other generous donors pitched in, including the McCarthy Family who provided lunch, in memory of Kirsten’s mother in law.
And special thanks and some oohs and aaahs go to Jennifer Kockos who organized the whole event, even spending the night in Golden Gate Park blowing up each balloon by herself. Ok, well that’s not entirely true but ALMOST.
