Amanda Strauss grew up with a mother who had cancer four different times. Night and day, she took care of her mother. Throughout the entire ordeal, Amanda handled the situation like an adult.

When her mother died, Amanda faced a difficult adjustment, but she has not allowed it to affect her drive to succeed. Instead, she uses her mother's words of encouragement to push herself. Amanda will attend UC Santa Barbara in the fall.
