Cierra suffered a child’s worst nightmare; her alcohol-dependent mother abandoned her and her little brother, and was later found dead in the Sacramento River. With her mother gone, Cierra was homeless and life became increasingly difficult. Holding onto her passion for mathematics, Cierra clung to school, where she excelled as a student. She now works part-time while finishing her studies, but needs financial help to realize her dream of going to college. Cierra was accepted to the University of Richmond.
