Dwayne (DJ) was abandoned by his father when he was very young. DJ’s mother became increasingly abusive as she struggled with her drug addiction, eventually losing custody of DJ’s two older siblings. One particularly turbulent night, she threw DJ out of the house, leaving him to fend for himself. Fortunately, DJ was able to make his home at school; he is one of the first boarding students at Eastside College Preparatory School. He is an Honor student, and the captain of the varsity basketball team. He also volunteers at the Ecumenical Hunger Program (EHP), which distributes food and clothes to needy families. DJ wants to go to college in the hopes of serving his community in the future. His would like to attend Gonzaga University.
