Evelyn Montiel enrolled herself in private school in Oakland, then she found a scholarship to pay for it. She has been class president for three years in a row and maintains a 3.62 GPA while taking on a difficult slate of advanced placement classes.

Evelyn commutes from East Oakland where her parents struggle to make a living with their concession snack truck. She has grown up working every week for her family business. She will be attending USC.
