Jasmine has grown up with her great grandmother in West Oakland surrounded, as she says,” by poverty, chaos and few positive role models”. The oldest of four children, Jasmine has taken on the responsibility of caring for her younger brother who has a serious medical condition. Despite the demands on her time, she focuses on her studies, maintaining a 3.0 grade point average. She also works at the Boys and Girls Club of Oakland in order to set a good example for her younger siblings, and to motivate them to go to college. Jasmine plans to major in Psychology. She has been accepted to Chico State.
