Ruby Acosta
Ruby grew up without much money or stability at home. Her father worked 19-hour days while her mother cleaned houses and sold candy, chips and soda from the family's living room. Moving often between Mexico and California, Ruby’s education was frequently disrupted. Ruby works at Sears five days a week to help support the family. Despite these challenges, Ruby believes that education is her passport to a better life. Ruby wants to become the first in her family to finish high school and attend college. As President of the Latino Student Union, Ruby is working to present a more positive image of Latinos. Ruby will attend Sonoma State.
