Sandy Phan
Sandy’s father passed away when she was seven years old and her mother struggled financially to raise Sandy and her four brothers. As a Vietnamese family living in a predominately Latino neighborhood, her family often experienced racism. Their daily struggles and hardships inspired Sandy to do well in school for herself and for her family. Sandy’s English teacher wrote: “to know Sandy is to know hope, not only for our future generation but for the future of women. She not only rises above adversity in her own life, but she inspires great understanding for those who face hardships in their own life.” With a 3.6 GPA, Sandy hopes to study marketing at either Santa Clara University, Occidental College, or Loyola Marymount in the fall.
