Described by her teacher as “a young woman of exceptional grace, courage, and positivity”, Tammy comes from a family of Vietnamese immigrants and she will be the first in her family to attend college. Her father works to provide for the family, and Tammy is the primary caregiver for her mom who is mentally ill. For much of her high school career, she has studied independently at home to meet the demands of providing care to her mother and family. Despite these challenges she maintains top grades and even played on her high school football team where she was voted team captain for their homecoming game. She is excited about going to college in the fall and is waiting for acceptances from several California colleges.
