Tanea is a student in the Creative Writing program at her high school. Her father has been incarcerated for most of her life, and her mother is a schizophrenic. Tanea is the primary caregiver for her two younger sisters and provides support to her mother who only recently received treatment for her mental illness. In her spare time, Tanea is a community organizer for the San Francisco Youth Commission. She hopes to become the first in her family to attend college and to study medicine. Upon graduation, Tanea would like to join the Peace Corps. Tanea will attend Columbia University.
