Thuy Nguyen is an honor student and a Sunday school teacher. She is also a ward of the court. Thuy's decision to become a ward of the court, tells you a lot about her strength. Her mother developed a gambling addiction and sometimes left the kids alone. Thuy was left as the sole caretaker of her family.

At the age of 15, she summoned all of her courage and called Child Protective Services to ask for help. She will be attending the University of San Francisco in the fall.
